About

This website seeks to document various sports and non-sports trading cards from the pre-war era. While pre-war typically indicates cards produced before the U.S. involvement in World War II (1939), the era is also extended for many until pre-1948 since that year marked start of the ‘modern’ post-war collecting era with the issuance of Bowman cards and, shortly thereafter, Topps cards.

Thus, cards mentioned here will include mentions of issues created prior to 1948.

The majority of cards discussed here will include my own collecting pursuits, articles will also cover recent news of major cards, as well as other types of pre-war cards. While sports cards will be the focal point, discussion of non-sports cards will be heavily included as well as those cards become more and more popular with collectors.

My name is Anson Whaley and my personal collecting focus is almost entirely pre-war cards. While I have collected cards much longer, I began to focus almost exclusively on pre-war cards after 2010. I am primarily a set collector and have built T205, T206 (set of 520) and T207 sets. You can find some of my favorite sets and singles here.

Additionally, I have written about sports cards for more than 20 years. You will find my articles on early cards in Beckett’s Vintage Collector print magazine as well as on the Sports Collectors Daily website.
